Soar in 2024 with MSBR -Investing in Yourself

Great News!

Coastal & Mid-Shore agents now have full SentriLock reciprocity.

This means REALTORS do not have to get paperwork approved to be able to show property at the beach.  You still need to follow all rules including setting up an appointment and being present at all showings.

This covers Somerset, Wicomico, and Worcester Counties.

Educate Yourself About Unconscious Bias from 2-5pm on Feb. 22, 2024

This 3-hour CE "C" class will be offered in person at MSBR. The presenters are Colette Massengale, Senior Policy Representative for Fair Housing at National Association of REALTORS and Kathleen McTeague Dartez, Director of Legal Affairs at Maryland REALTORS.  The class will be followed by a reception to meet the presenters and network with fellow attendees.

The objectives of the class are:

1. Describe the history of bias and discrimination in real estate to understand how neighborhoods became segregated and appreciate the challenges many consumers still face because of their identities.

2. Explain how implicit bias may result in violations of Fair Housing laws and industry ethics. 3. Identify interventions to prevent implicit bias, identify anxiety, and stereotype threat from influencing behavior so that consumers are treated with equal concern, respect, and fairness. 4. Increase personal motivation to confront these phenomena in business and the community.

February 22, 2024 from 2-5 pm In-Peron at the MSBR Office

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee is hosting this CE Class.  Afterwards, attendees will enjoy a networking happy hour

Do you know sellers who think REALTORS just put a sign in the lawn and put an ad on the internet, and the home automatically sells itself?

Do buyers think all you do is take a key, open the door and then go collect a big fat check?

Sell your value to buyers and sellers.

With robust real estate information readily available online, consumers are questioning the value of your services—and they may even ask for a discount on your compensation.

As an agent, you need to make a point to share with your home buyers and sellers a list of the tasks you do to help them navigate a successful transaction. Consumers want value, and most people are willing to pay for that value.

The problem is that some REALTOR don’t know how to sell their value-Do YOU?

Here are some ways that agents can better demonstrate the skill set they bring to a transaction.

Check out this article on Understanding Compensation

In this issue’s of “CEO Corner,” (read "My Kingdom for a Crystal Ball" here) Maryland REALTORS® CEO Chuck Kasky offers a brief history lesson, outlining the evolution of buyer representation and of the compensation model under which the listing brokerage offers cooperative compensation to subagents and buyer’s agents.

Pending seller class-action litigation against the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and four corporate brokerage defendants has increased both awareness and scrutiny of the existing compensation model.
