Fair Housing: Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing

This 3-hour CE class will be offered in person at MSBR. Attendee will earn 1.5 hours required Fair Housing "C" and 1.5 hours Elective "F". The presenters are Colette Massengale, Senior Policy Representative for Fair Housing at National Association of REALTORS and Kathleen McTeague Dartez, Director of Legal Affairs at Maryland REALTORS. The class will be followed by a reception to meet the presenters and network with fellow attendees. The objectives of the class are: 1. Describe the history of bias and discrimination in real estate to understand how neighborhoods became segregated and appreciate the challenges many consumers still face because of their identities. 2. Explain how implicit bias may result in violations of Fair Housing laws and industry ethics. 3. Identify interventions to prevent implicit bias, identify anxiety, and stereotype threat from influencing behavior so that consumers are treated with equal concern, respect, and fairness. 4. Increase personal motivation to confront these phenomena in business and the community.
